Citizen Potawatomi Nation - Climate Adaptation
BSIS staff created a climate adaptation plan for the Citizen Potawatomi Nation (CPN), building off of a
previously existing vulnerability assessment as well as other plans (integrated resource management, water resources, etc.).
Our tasks were to:
• Review and research relevant plans and assessments
• Work with the South Central Climate Science Center to get forecasts of climate changes
• Convene the kick-off meeting
• Facilitate draft plan review of the eight person steering committee
• Produce a final plan to guide tribal decision-making for greater resilience
One challenge was that the vulnerability assessment (VA) factors had not been prioritized for action, so we embedded prioritization into the adaptation plan itself. The outcome was a complete adaptation plan, highlighting action areas, highlighting next steps, and identifying responsible parties with budget requirements for the eight areas of vulnerability. The final plan was accepted by nine-person Steering Committee for tribal council adoption."
