This is an incredible time of positive change! Time to bring traditional structures back in new and exciting ways! The #nodapl effort at Standing Rock is bringing together Indigenous led Water Protectors in profound ways, supporting the transition to locally based and truly renewable energy sources while protecting our Water, Land, and future!

Winter is coming fast in North Dakota, and the Protectors are in immediate need of warm and safe places to rest and recharge in the harsh winter weather. The Indigenous Environmental Network has been working side by side with Standing Rockleaders, community members, and Camp organizers to welcome this project. They have been coordinating with Sustainable Nations, Blue Star Integrative Studio, and Biohabitats to bring the minds of Indigenous architects, planners, engineers, and others together around the effort to build a sustained community of structured to last the Winter and beyond. They have worked to gain permissions, create designs, and set budgets for the construction of traditional structures on tribal lands above confluence of the Cannon Ball and Missouri Rivers. All that is needed is the resources to begin.

This local Indigenous construction technique has existed for thousands of years, and is a climate adaptive sustainable building method. The Earthlodges (various types - mound, pit house, hogan, etc.) will serve as a permanent, solar-powered, water conserving, teaching and demonstration buildings; beautiful examples of contemporary Indigenous architecture. A place to remember and honor the history being made at Standing Rock while celebrating an economy and way of living that is dramatically less dependent on fossil fuels.

We have a logistical team ready to order materials from a budgeted line item cost list prepared by architects, engineers, and general contractors. We have crews ready to begin construction once shipments of materials arrive. There are also cost-matching partners waiting to see how this fundraising goes to create the first beautiful Lodge, if not more, all the while enabling our Water Protectors to continue their powerful and prayerful work!

We require funds as soon as possible, so please spread the word quickly. There is very little time to order supplies and start construction before the ground freezes and the snowy winds arrive. We anticipated being able to construct at least two Lodges from this effort.

Thank you SO much for standing by our side as we #BuildWithStandingRock TOGETHER and breathe life into this beautiful demonstration of sustainable Indigenous design and construction that will serve as a long term Heritage Site to show the world the power of Native American prayer and ingenuity!

Other worlds ARE possible!
