Intertribal Climate Consortium - Capacity Building / Climate Vulnerability / Climate Adaptation
The Intertribal Climate Consortium is made up of the Delaware Tribe, the Delaware Nation
and the Shawnee Tribe. The consortium seeks to:
1) Build technical capacity for conducting climate adaptation planning focused on the
environmental resources of Tribal service areas
2) Conduct vulnerability assessments (VA) for each Tribe, looking broadly at all
aspects of the community, and including a series of three workshops.
3) Create climate change adaptation plans for each Tribe
Blue Star Integrative Studio was brought in to:
• Conduct the third vulnerability assessment workshop
• Help each tribe complete their VA
• Complete adaptation plans for each tribe
BSIS staff designed the vulnerability assessment workshop, including presentation of down-scaled climate projections, the processes of assessing sensitivity and adaptive capacity, built around ranking matrices where participants made a first-level estimation at the relative sensitivity and adaptive capacity of key items of concern, to help prioritize vulnerabilities for the adaptation planning to come later. Tribal staff also identified research tasks as next steps to get better grounding for the relative rankings. The tribes are working through next steps to finalize their vulnerability assessments in fall of 2019.
